Elgin's Weekend Powers Way to PacWest Honor

Phoenix, AZ -- After another impressive week at middle blocker for the Academy of Art University volleyball team, junior Lindsay Elgin was selected as the Pacific West Conference Women's Volleyball Player of the Week. The conference announced the honor on Monday, Sept. 16, for matches contested Sept. 9-15.

Elgin led the Urban Knights to a 2-2 week at the Route 92 Showdown with her now-expected dual threat on the court, posting the top kill percentage for the week (.487) while also totaling 16 total blocks (3.33 per set). The junior totaled 41 kills over 15 sets, only making four errors in the process. She had three straight games of 10+ kills, totaling a season-high 12 kills against both Humboldt State and Cal State Monterey Bay, and also hit over .500 in three of the four matches, with a high of .583 (7 kills, 0 errors) against Saint Martin's in the finale.

After the impressive weekend, Elgin ranks third in overall hitting percentage in the PacWest (.388) while also ranking second in blocks per set (1.31), ranking first overall in total blocks (42.0). After only a season and change, she's also climbing up the career leaderboards for the Urban Knights, now second all-time for hitting percentage (.307) and blocks per game (1.18). She's also ranked fourth in total blocks (154) and is eighth all-time in kills (290).

This is the first time an Urban Knight has earned the Athlete of the Week honor since former player and assistant coach Camille Board received the award for the week of October 17, 2010.
