Nagel, Sanchez Capture PacWest Weekly Honors

PacWest Release #2

Phoenix, AZ -- In a week where the Urban Knights outscored their opponents 8-1, the offensive tandem of junior Frederik Nagel and sophomore Jesus "Chava" Sanchez were named to the Pacific West Conference Weekly Final 5. Nagel and Sanchez each registered a pair of goals on the week and were each responsible for a game-winner. The conference announced the honors on Monday, Sept. 16, for matches contested Sept. 9-15.

Nagel, who had the first goal of the season for ART U on Sept. 5, continued to make his opportunities count, registering two more goals in three chances against Simpson on Sept. 14. He offered what would be the game-winner in the 40th minute then came right back with another goal less than four minutes later. Those goals would spark Academy of Art to eventually tie its single-game scoring record.

Currently the team's scoring leader with three goals, Nagel is tied for first in the PacWest for total goals and ranks second in the PacWest in total points.

Sanchez netted one goal in each of the contests ART U played this past week. He began with the game-winner versus Saint Martin's on Sept. 12 which came in the 62nd minute and broke a 1-1 tie to that point. Then, against Simpson, Sanchez scored in the 56th minute as the Knights pulled away from the Red Hawks and eventually won 6-0.

The goals were the first two for Sanchez in 2013 and give him five in a little over a year as an Urban Knight. For the season, Sanchez is tied for fourth in the PacWest in goals and is tied for fifth in the conference in total points.

This is the first weekly honor for Nagel in his Academy of Art career and it is the third for Sanchez.
