Women's Golf Starts Year With Strong Finish

Goodyear, AZ -- Urban Knights Women's Golf closed out its first tournament of the season, the Western New Mexico University Fall Intercollegiate, out at the Coldwater Golf Club on Tuesday. Academy of Art placed seventh overall of the 18 teams competing with Crystal Wang leading the way after matching her first round score for a 154 total.

Wang's 77 in round two put her into a tie for 16th individually while Roxanne Matta added an 81 to her 77 first round score for a 158 and tied for 30th. Finishing tied for 43rd were a pair of Urban Knights as Deanna Tyndall and Melissa Genao each posted a 161 overall. Tyndall added an 84 to her 77 from the opening round and Genao had the biggest improvement of all ART U golfers, going 78 in her second round after an 83 to start. Mariana Pazos added a 166 (84-82) to take home a tie for 55th individually.

As a team, Academy of Art was just two strokes off of Colorado State - Pueblo in sixth place and 19 strokes back of a close battle for first overall. Chico State took the team title with a 613 overall score, just one stroke ahead of Oklahoma Christian and Northeastern State knotted in second place at 614. The Urban Knights finished 624 overall.
