2014 Ramapo College Indoor Select Results
New York, NY – Back for another day loaded with events inside the New Balance Track & Field Center at the Armory, the Urban Knights had both their men's and women's 4x400m relay teams claim first place in competitions featuring more than 20 squads. Also highlighting Saturday's Ramapo College Indoor Select were
Ronald Spears, Jr. winning the 60m dash, the men's Distance Medley Relay taking first, and
Keanna Moody besting 39 others in the title in the 400m dash.
On the men's side, the 4x400m relay team of
Alexander McNally, Spears, Jr.,
Shaquille Howard, and
Jordan Edwards showed they meant business with a 3:21.59 mark that guided them into first overall by nearly a full second. Up against many of the other top teams in their heat, ART U topped Lincoln (PA) (2nd), The College of New Jersey (4th), and Oneonta (5th).

Another team success came in the Distance Medley Relay where the foursome of
Jack Nevins, McNally,
Logan Means, and
Nicolas Rifflard made a strong final push to place first out of nine other teams. Stevens Institute led much of the way, but into the final lap, it was the Urban Knights who had their own margin of victory. They would finish on top (10:28.51) by more than three seconds.

When Spears, Jr. wasn't helping his teammates in the 4x4, he was busy taking first place in both the prelims and finals of the 60m dash. He started with a 7.11 to make it to the finals, besting 37 others in the process there. Then, in the finals, Spears, Jr. delivered a personal best of 7.01 to take the highest position in a field of nine.

Marlon Britton also had his share of strong performances in the 60m hurdles where he used an 8.63 prelim time to place sixth of 31 and reach the event finals. There he came in fifth of 10 with an 8.51 mark.

The women's 4x400m relay team of Moody,
Dominique Berry,
Mistic Scott, and
Dierra Haven left little possibility for another team to pose any kind of challenge as they opened up a big lead early. After the first leg, the Urban Knights held a 35m advantage and would go on to win questioned by nearly five full seconds with a time of 3:52.51. That NCAA Nationals provisional qualifier put ART U on top of 21 other schools including New Haven and Wheaton.

Like the men, Academy of Art's women's Distance Medley Relay squad performed well on Saturday. The collection of
Kaelyn Harbison, Berry, Scott, and
McKaela Christenson, posted a time of 12:46.41 en route to second of the nine teams competing. Harbison made her move in the second half of the opening leg to create a significant margin which only Stockton eventually caught up to in the end.

In the 400m, Moody continued to excel this season, turning in a 56.95 (converted from 56.20) which keeps her approaching an NCAA Nationals automatic qualifier as she is now fourth in the country. Out of the 40 runners, Moody claimed first overall while 4x4 teammate
Dierra Haven delivered an eighth place result with a time of 59.75.Â

Christenson had a strong showing in the 3,000m which ended with Amy Regan (Stevens Institute) setting a new facility record. The ART U freshman finished seventh of 27 with a time of 10:33.37.

The 60m hurdles was a success for
Amira Barnett who went 9.29 to grab fourth of 28 in the prelim before a 9.44 time in the final got her fifth of nine.
Academy of Art makes its first trip of the season to Nampa, Idaho next weekend for the Jacksons Invitational on Friday and Saturday (Jan. 24-25).
