ROHNERT PARK, Calif. — Senior Alberto Esponda finished just eight strokes off the lead this week at the Sonoma State Invitational at the Foxtail Golf Club, earning a 12th-place finish to lead the Academy of Art University men's golf team.

Esponda was tied for fifth individually, just four strokes off the lead through the first two rounds Monday after posting rounds of 74 (+2) and 72 (E). Esponda shot a 4-over 76 Tuesday to finish with a three-round total of 222. Senior
Eugene Wang was the Urban Knights' other top-20 individual, finishing in a three-way tie for 20th after shooting 76-78-72 (226, +10). His even-par round of 72 Tuesday leap-frogged him 20 places from a tie in 40th to 20th place.

ART U finished 11th as a team with a three-round total score of 923, defeating Pacific West Conference programs Holy Names (12th, 926) and Notre Dame de Namur (13th, 936). Host Sonoma State won the team title on its home course       with three straight sub-300 rounds of 295-295-293.

Oskar Frick finished 59th (82-76-79—237) and junior
Dat Do was tied for 60th (82-77-79—238). Freshman
Gustavo Romero was the team's top finisher last week and this week finished in 71st (84-79-87—250).

The Urban Knights will conclude their fall schedule Oct. 31-Nov. 1 at the Dennis Rose Intercollegiate tournament hosted by Hawaii-Hilo in Waikoloa, Hawaii.
