2014 All-Pacific West Conference Women's Cross Country Awards
IRVINE, Calif. -- With an impressive showing on both sides at the
Pacific West Conference Cross Country Championships, both the ART U men's and women's cross country teams had multiple recipients of post-season honors in Tuesday's announcement of the All-PacWest Teams.
The men's team featured junior
Valentin Pepiot as Newcomer of the Year and
Mack Marbas the Freshman of the Year in addition to All-PacWest First Team honors for both. Sophomore
Austin Esposito officially earned All-PacWest Second Team as well.
On the women's side,
McKaela Christenson was chosen as Freshman of the Year and the quartet of Christenson (First Team), sophomore
Kaelyn Harbison (Second Team), junior
Elizabeth Khuu (Third Team), and freshman
Ericka Taylor (Third Team) were each All-PacWest selections.
A vote by the PacWest head coaches determined the individual honors and the All-PacWest teams were determined by the results of the PacWest Championship meet. The top-21 finishers received All-PacWest honors, with seven runners on each team.
Pepiot achieved first-team All-PacWest status with a third-place finish at the PacWest Championship. A three-time PacWest Runner of the Week, Pepiot won two events and was the top-DII finisher at the
Stanford Invitational and
Bronco Invitational. He was named
USTFCCCA Division II National Athlete of the Week on Sept. 29.
Marbas finished right behind Pepiot at the PacWest Championship with a time of 25:10.36, to earn first-team All-PacWest honors as well. He finished third in a
tri-meet with San Francisco State and Cal State East Bay, 21st at the
San Francisco State Invitational, and was once the
PacWest Freshman of the Week after his lifetime best at the Bronco Invitational.

Esposito also broke into the Top 10 for All-PacWest Second Team honors with a 25:37.97 that put him ninth overall. The mark was his second-lowest to date behind his personal record (25:35.2) which came most recently at the Bronco Invitational.
Christenson earned All-PacWest First Team accolades by placing sixth at the PacWest Championship, the top-freshman finisher (22:04.72). She posted three top-10 finishes this season, including second place at the
Lancer Invitational in her collegiate debut. She won PacWest Freshman of the Week twice.
Behind Christenson, Harbison finished strong at 22:11.84 to best the top runners from Fresno Pacific, BYU-Hawaii, and Point Loma. Harbison's mark was the second lowest of her collegiate career behind what she did at Bronco.
Khuu and Taylor went 23:07.42 and 23:20.62 respectively to each claim All-PacWest Third Team awards. Khuu was 18th overall and Taylor finished 21st.
Academy of Art sends these seven along with freshmen
Brett Bermudez,
Chris Costa, and
Austin Murray. to NCAA West Regionals this year hosted by Montana State Billings in at Amend Park in Montana on Saturday, Nov. 22.
