TIPPING OFF

The Academy of Art University men's basketball team has had a run of bad luck recently, losing their second straight close game in their only matchup of 2013-14 with Fresno Pacific. The Urban Knights took the lead with two minutes to play but it was the Sunbirds who finished off the Knights in an 83-77 loss. Alex Carmon recorded his sixth career double-double with 24 points and 13 rebounds against FPU.

NEW GROUNDS FOR DIXIE REMATCH
The Knights will host the Red Storm of Dixie State this weekend, but instead of at the usual venue of historic Kezar Pavilion, Saturday's game will be held at San Francisco State University's main gym. The Knights and the Storm locked horns at the end of January, an 86-73 loss for ART U. Both teams had four players in double-figures, with the Knights led by Carmon's 25 points and Dixie led by DeQuan Thompson's 19 points and Zach Robbins' 15 point, 15 rebound performance. The Red Storm are now sitting at 13-4 in the conference and narrowly in the second seed for the PacWest Championship, led by Robbins, who is putting up 16.1 ppg (9th in PacWest) and 9.7 rpg (1st in PacWest).

KNIGHTS GET SURGE FROM SERGIO
Redshirt freshman Sergio Valdeolmillos has grown exponentially since the beginning of the season, and recently has come on strong as a key component for the Urban Knights from beyond the arc when he steps on the floor. Just under half of the Spaniard's field goal attempts have been from three-point land, and Valdeolmillos is sinking triples at the highest rate on the team (43.5%), and often at key times in the game. In the past six games, he has seen his minutes increase and as a result, his rebounds, assists, and points per game increase. Valdeolmillos put up three double-digit performances in four games, scoring a career high 12 points against BYU-Hawaii and following with 11 against both Dixie State and Notre Dame de Namur.

SEVEN IS LUCKY FOR PENGUINS
Way back on December 14th, the Urban Knights and Penguins squared off in a close game that saw the Knights rally back with a 41 point second half to overcome a 43-29 halftime deficit before dropping the contest 76-70. More recently, Dominican has been on a tear, and recently won their seventh game in a row to rocket up the PacWest standings and take sole possession of third seed in the conference tournament. With a winning percentage over 70% and Dixie State only one game ahead in the standings, the Penguins may have more on their minds than just the Golden Gate Bridge rivalry with the Urban Knights. ART U will look to move the ball around like they did last time, getting 18 assists on 24 field goals, and will also have to contain Devin Golston (15.8 ppg) and Connor Haysbert (14.0 ppg), who both rank in the top 15 scoring in the PacWest.

IN TRANSITION
The Urban Knights will finish off the season at home against Azusa Pacific University on Thursday, February 27. They will honor their two seniors, big men Aaron Aikman and Rodrigo Maza, who will be playing their final games for the Urban Knights next week.
