PacWest Release #14
Newport Beach, CA -- Junior
Alexis Moore filled up the box score last week on both ends of the floor, and for his efforts he earned a new honor, being named the Hawaii Tourism Authority PacWest Defensive Player of the Week. The awards were announced Monday for games played February 17-23.
Moore was all over the court last week, averaging 25.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 3.5 steals per game for the Urban Knights against Fresno Pacific and Dixie State. He played all 40 minutes against Fresno Pacific, adding to his program single-season steals record with three steals and totaling six rebounds. Against the Red Storm, he upped those numbers, notching four steals and again grabbing six boards. That was only on the defensive end, however, as he also put together back-to-back 20+ point games, dropping 22 against FPU and 29 points against Dixie.
The Long Beach Polytechnic High School graduate has performed at a high level all year, and is within reach of the ART U single-season scoring record, sitting only 23 points behind
Ameer Shamsud-din's mark set in 2011-12. He is comfortably in the lead for career average for points (17.7 ppg) and has already set the new records for single-season three-pointers (57) and single-season steals (49), a mark that also ranks third in the PacWest.
This is Moore's first Defensive Player of the Week award after being named to the PacWest Final 5 on three separate occasions.Â
