Thurman Named PacWest Player of the Week

PacWest Release #8

Taylor Thurman
Newport Beach, CA -- Closing out the Urban Knights' 10-game Hawaii roadtrip strong, junior Taylor Thurman captured Hawaii Tourism Authority Pacific West Conference Player of the Week. The Lake Forest, CA native wrapped up the week hitting .522 with 14 runs batted in over the final six games of the trip. The award is based on games played March 17-23.

Starting the week against Hawaii Pacific on Mar. 16, Thurman began her current six-game hit streak with a RBI single in the first contest then a 2-for-4 game two in which she started her current five-game streak with a run scored. The big hits then came at Chaminade on Mar. 18 as Thurman doubled twice in the opener, finishing 2-for-4 with three RBIs then drove in four as part of a 3-for-4 game two including another double.

In both sides of a twinbill at BYU-Hawaii on Mar. 20, Thurman went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and another double which turned out to be the game-winning hit in the first contest. The junior's first at-bat of the finale was a three-run homer to left.
She slugged .826 in the six-game span while offering a .640 on-base percentage.

"Taylor was awesome on our trip," co-head coach Sami Strinz said. "She has been one who we can rely on to get us big hits. We've always known that she can be that type of hitter and I think she's seeing herself if that way as well."

On the year, Thurman is ranked 11th in the Pacific West Conference in doubles (8), 17th in RBIs (21), 19th in batting average (.368) as well as slugging percentage (.529).

This is the second PacWest Player of the Week honor in Thurman's career and her first this season. She received one such honor last season as well.
