Edwards' 200m Highlights Knights In Sun Angel

2014 Arizona State Sun Angel Classic Results

Tempe, AZ –
Under the lights inside Arizona State's Sun Devil Stadium on Saturday, ART U Track & Field made some major statements at the 35th annual Sun Angel Classic. The biggest of them all was Jordan Edwards dropping the #2 time in NCAA Division II in the 200m, bettering his season best by a significant margin, and Shaquille Howard securing the #2 mark in the nation in the 400m. Additionally, Quinlan Wright improved on his school record in the 400m hurdles and several of the relays offered season bests.

"The men's team really stepped up and ran well this weekend," head coach Charles Ryan said. "The guys are a small group that has suffered a lot of big losses this year, but through all that adversity has emerged a tight knit group of men who are focused on making their presence felt this outdoor season."

Going sub-21.00 for the first time as an Urban Knight, Edwards found himself extremely close to the NCAA DII automatic qualifying time in the 200m. He would post a 20.89 for not only a new school record, but more than a 0.30 improvement on his previous low. Edwards would take second in the event itself behind Texas A&M's Prezel Hardy, Jr.

In the 400m Premiere, Howard wedged himself between sprinters from Penn State and host Arizona State with a 46.66 which serves now the #2 time in all of NCAA DII. This season best made him and Edwards the top two 400m competitors in the country after the latter's AQ mark last weekend in Florida.

Wright furthered his NCAA provisional qualifier in the 400m hurdles by going 53.17 on Saturday. The time was a full second better than his school record set last week at the Pepsi Florida Relays.

The men's 4x400m relay team of Howard, Ronald Spears, Jr., Wright, and Edwards delivered another new program record with a time of 3:11.92. The mark, which furthered their NCAA provisional qualifier, puts them now into the country's top 10 in the event at #9.

On the women's side, the 4x100m relay team of Racquel Jones, Dinesha Bean, Mistic Scott, and Keanna Moody went just below their previous season best with a 46.02. They remain the #4 quartet in the country with that mark.

In the 100m, Jones ran a season best 12.25 which is #3 on ART U's all-time list. Moody hung with a loaded 400m Premiere field and posted the second-lowest time in her career at 55.02.

ART U next looks ahead to a busy weekend in Southern California with the Mt. SAC Relays (Apr. 18-19), Bryan Clay Invitational (Apr. 18), and Beach Invitational (Apr. 19) on tap.
