ART U Claims Fourth At PacWest Championship

Final Results

Vallejo, CA -- In their most important tournament of the spring season, the Academy of Art University men's golf team stood pat in the fourth position for their best finish of the year, which just happened to be at the Pacific West Conference Tournament. The Urban Knights rode strong performances from Alberto "Dago" Esponda and Tommaso Vielmo, who both finished in the top eleven in the individual standings.

The Knights slipped a little in the final round in terms of team score but had built up a hefty cushion against their opponents trailing them in the standings. The eventual champion, UH Hilo, shot 887 as a team with four top-10 finishes, followed by Dixie State University (907) and Dominican (911). After Academy of Art (926) was California Baptist (932) in fifth place.

In the individual standings, Esponda started the day tied for eighth and ended in sole possession of eighth place overall after a round of 76. Vielmo slipped out of the top ten but still posted his highest finish of the year in 11th place. Eugene Wang finished tied for 23rd, while Cody Moore and Dat Do each enjoyed a good rebound from their last tournament. Mark Milton (DOM) won a one-hole playoff with Kenny You (DSU), while Dalen Yamauchi (UHH) finished third. Hayden Christensen (DSU) took fourth, while Kyeton Littel (UHH) finished fifth overall.

Both Esponda and Vielmo were named to the All-PacWest Second Team after their performances. It was the first such honor for both ART U golfers.
