Tyndall Shoots Up Leaderboard In Round Two

Final Results

Rohnert Park, CA --
Continuing a trend that started ever since she got to San Francisco, senior Deanna Tyndall finished off the Sonoma State Spring Women's Invitational with a late push toward the top of the leaderboard, eventually tying for second place overall in the individual standings. Tyndall's finish sparked a nine-stroke improvement by the Urban Knights on the second day, who fell out of a tie but still finished only seven strokes out of third place.

"This is great golf," head coach Elaine Harris said. "I am so happy to see [Deanna] finish strong. She is very focused on the golf course and has trust in her routine and game."

The Knights did a lot better on the second day, with three of their five golfers improving in the second round and combining to shave off 18 strokes from their scores. The Knights ended the tournament with a second round score of 315 and a final score of 639. They were only one stroke behind Point Loma and two behind Sonoma State's second team, and only seven strokes behind the third-place tie of Newman and Cal State Monterey Bay. Cal State East Bay finished in first place with three top-5 finishers, with host Sonoma State taking second place.

Tyndall had a very good round in the second, shooting an even 72 on the day, helped by four birdies, three on the back nine holes. Crystal Wang finished tied for 14th place after shooting a 79 on the second day, while Mariana Pazos slashed five strokes off to finish tied for 37th. Andrea Castellanos (CSUEB) took first place, followed by Courtney Ziestman (Newman) and Tyndall in second place. Audra Kepler (CSUMB finished fourth while there were three players who tied for fifth.
