San Francisco, CA -- After wrapping up a breakout junior season on the softball field, Kamyle Glover received national recognition for what she did in the classroom as well on Thursday. The everyday starting designated player for Academy of Art University Softball was named to the 2014 Capital One Academic All-District Softball Team. Glover, an outstanding student in the School of Fashion Merchandising, finished off her year with one of the best batting averages on the team and in the Pacific West Conference.

"We are extremely proud of the growth that we have seen from Kamyle both on and off of the field this year," co-head coach Sami Strinz said. "She is an excellent example of an artist-athlete by taking care of business on the field and in the classroom. We are looking forward to continued success from her next year."

Student-athletes were selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and recognized as the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.

To qualify for the CoSIDA All-District Softball Team in Division II, a student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or greater through the most-recent semester, must be a starter or key reserve, and completed one full calendar year at his institution. A total of 93 student-athletes representing 74 Division II institutions met these requirements.

This season, Glover ranked second on the Urban Knights' squad with a .400 batting average (10th in the PacWest), totaling 17 mult-hit games on the year. Perhaps one of her biggest highlights was a 10-game hitting streak from Mar. 16 - Apr. 4 in which she hit .600 (21-for-35), scored 16 times, and registered eight RBIs. Highly productive at the top of the ART U batting order, Glover reached base in 41 of her 50 games played in 2014. She did all this while adding to her cumulative GPA of 3.38.

There are eight districts in all and three separate teams for NCAA Division I, II and III as well as a College Division, which includes NAIA, Canadian and junior colleges. District 8 includes the PacWest, California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) and the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC). Academic All-District honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot. The Capital One Division II Academic All-American Team will be announced later this month.
