2014 Occidental Invitational Results
2014 University of San Francisco West Coast Last Chance MeetOn the final day of the 2014 regular season, Academy of Art University Track & Field simultaneously competed at the Occidental Invitational and USF West Coast Last Chance Meet with the goal of qualifying any remaining individuals for Nationals. Highlights went beyond those last qualifiers (such as both men's relays), however, as school records were set by
Dinesha Bean (100m),
Nicolas Rifflard (1500m), and
Jordan Edwards (100m).
"I've been doing last chance meets for 10 plus years and I have never had so many people deliver performances under those conditions like we did this weekend," head coach
Charles Ryan said. "Everyone did a great job, young people stepped up, veterans led, and everyone gave themselves a good chance at the big goal. Now all we can do it sit and wait to see how selections go. In or out, I'm proud if everyone who competed this weekend."
San Francisco, CA – Out at SF State's Cox Stadium, ART U athletes delivered a total of 10 personal records with four as new program top marks.
Bean claimed first of 10 sprinters in the 100m dash with a truly dominant time. Flying to a program record 11.68, the senior moved up to 11th in the country in the event.
Racquel Jones and
Amanda Odesjo each added season-bests among the top five finishers.
Rifflard put his best foot forward in the 1500m, finishing first of 27. He put forth the program's first sub-3:50.00 time with a 3:48.92. The performance makes him 14th overall in NCAA DII.
In the 100m, Edwards saved his best for last with a 10.32 to match the program's record. He was followed by personal records from
Ronald Spears, Jr. (10.64) and
Marlon Britton (10.93).
The men's relays were also on top of their game at Cox Stadium on Saturday. In the 4x100m, the Urban Knights' team of Spears, Jr., Edwards, Britton, and
Alexander McNally furthered their provisional qualifying time with a 40.66 that is now 16th in the country. A program record came for the men's 4x400m, offering a 3:09.88 from
Shaquille Howard, Spears, Jr., McNally, and Edwards.
In the women's 400m hurdles,
Keanna Moody upped her NCAA provisional qualifying time with a 1:00.51. She is now second in program history in the event and 18th in the country.
"There is inherent pressure at a last chance meet, and everybody stepped up," associate head coach
Torrey Olson said. "Our relays were the best they've been all year and we had several individual qualifiers, including Keanna in the 400 hurdles and Nico with a big personal record in the 1500 to secure his spot."
On both sides of the 200m dash, Britton and Jones each turned in season-bests.
Los Angeles, CA – Four Urban Knights headed south to Bill Henry Track on the campus of Occidental College for the Oxy Invitational.
Quinlan Wright made it a memorable trip with his performance in the 400m hurdles.
Wright delivered a program record with his 52.98 in the 400mH. He rose to sixth of 21 at the meet while furthering his NCAA provisional qualifying mark. Wright is now among the top 30 in the country.
Among the other ART U competitors were
Edgar Panford in the long jump (7th of 17),
Geno Simmons in the triple jump, and
Jasmin Guinn in the long jump.
The Urban Knights now look ahead to the NCAA Division II National Championships for the outdoor season. Nationals are scheduled for May 22-24 at Grand Valley State's LAX Field/Track Complex in Allendale, Michigan.
