PacWest Conference Players of the Week (Sept. 29)

Irvine, CA — The Pacific West Conference Monday named Academy of Art University volleyball freshman middle blocker Margaret Winkler its Freshman of the Week for Sept. 22-28 after the rookie notched 14 total blocks in three matches and helped the Urban Knights upset conference leader Cal Baptist on Saturday.
 
Winkler averaged 1.08 blocks per set last week against some of the PacWest's top teams. She posted six rejections Thursday versus Azusa Pacific and four each against Dixie State and Cal Baptist. She is sixth in the PacWest in blocks per set (1.03) and eighth in total blocks (32), tops amongst freshmen in both categories.
 
Winkler's PacWest weekly award is the second this season for ART U after sophomore outside hitter Melissa Brum was named PacWest Player of the Week for Sept. 1-7.  The Urban Knights next host Hawaii-Hilo Wednesday and Hawaii Pacific Thursday, both at 7:30 p.m. at Kezar Pavilion, in two PacWest matchups.
