Brum Named PacWest Player of the Week

PacWest Players of the Week - Sept. 8

11174Irvine, CA -- After her dominant performance supporting ART U Volleyball to a 3-1 opening weekend, sophomore outside hitter Melissa Brum has been named Pacific West Conference Player of the Week. The award is based on matches played Sept. 4-7.

Brum picked up right where she left off in 2013 with major contributions to the Urban Knights' 3-1 week. She offered a 5.21 kills per set average and notched double-doubles in three of the four matches. Brum was on fire in ART U's Sept. 5 season opener against Humboldt State as part of the Route 92 Showdown. She started by delivering kills in six of her first seven attempts and ended with 21 kills (her third career 20+ kill performance) to go with 14 digs.

Hours later, Brum went right back to work and posted 19 kills with seven digs en route to Academy of Art's 3-0 sweep of tournament host Cal State East Bay. Day two of the tourney saw Brum go for 14 kills and 10 digs in another sweep, this one of Pacific West Conference foe Notre Dame de Namur. Then, versus Carson Newman, the Knights swept once more and Brum added 19 kills with 13 digs, hitting her highest since joining ART U (.567).

Brum now leads the PacWest early on with 5.6 points per set, 73 total kills, and is second in kills per set.
