2015 Dallas Baptist Classic Results (Day 1)

DALLAS – Amid scorching opening round conditions of the Dallas Baptist Classic, Academy of Art University women's golfer Sabrina Virtusio posted an equally hot career-low. The freshman's collegiate best helped the Urban Knights into 12th as a team and just five strokes out of the top 10.

"Sabrina played really well and I am happy to see her breaking par so quickly in her college golf career," said head coach Elaine Harris. "She constantly hit greens and saved pars."

Virtusio remained art or under par for all but two holes on the day, posting three birdies en route to her tie for seventh place as an individual. She scored a 70 to conclude round one two-under par.

Behind Virtusio, junior Crystal Wang shot a 76 (+4) to sit tied for 31st while junior Roxanne Matta made her fall debut with a 78 for 46th. Sophomores Sterling Hawkins and Shu-lin Lin posted an 81 (T67) and 82 (T69) respectively.

Atop the leaderboard are Ann Parmerter of Dallas Baptist, Kamryn Cummings of Angelo State, and Marvi Monsalve of California Baptist each with a 68. However, the team in first place, St. Mary's (Tex.) had none of that trio, but three among the top 20. ART U is currently 12th as a unit, two strokes back of 11th place Oklahoma Christian and four behind Rogers State.

"I know the team can do better, but I am proud of them and excited to see the depth on the team," said Harris.

Academy of Art will tee off at The Golf Club of Dallas tomorrow for round two at 8 a.m. CT (6 a.m. PT).
