Melissa Brum Earns All-PacWest Third Team

2015 All-Pacific West Conference Awards

12247IRVINE, Calif. -- As one of Academy of Art University volleyball's top contributors all year, junior outside hitter Melissa Brum was selected to the All-Pacific West Conference Third Team in a Tuesday announcement.

"Mel's honor is very well deserved and we're glad that the coaches recognized her value to our team this year," said head coach Ray Batalon. "We asked her to take a larger leadership role this season with our young group and she was still able to produce for us on the volleyball court. She was instrumental to our success down the final stretch of our season and has improved as an all-around volleyball player."

This year, the PacWest's head coaches selected First, Second, Third Teams, as well as honorable mention, and a Player, Setter, Libero, Freshman, Newcomer, and Coach of the Year.

After being named Preseason All-PacWest Team heading into her junior season, Brum led the team offensively and was a consistent force on the defensive end as well. She ranked within the country's top 20 percent in kills per set and had 12 double-doubles through 24 matches played. Brum highlighted the year by becoming just the second Urban Knight to record her 1,000th career kill, a feat she accomplished against Chaminade on Nov. 5.

In the PacWest Conference, Brum ranked eighth in kills per set (3.65 k/s) and 21st in digs per set (2.96 d/s). She was one of just two players (the other PacWest Player of the Year Heather Leavitt of Point Loma) to rank among those two categories. Brum finished the year strong, recording a season-high 21 digs against Hawaii Pacific (Nov. 7) and a season-high 25 kills versus Dominican (Nov. 21), both during a 4-1 stretch for ART U to end 2015.

This is Brum's third career All-PacWest Team selection.
