IRVINE, Calif. — Helping lead Academy of Art University's offensive charge against Azusa Pacific on Feb. 20-21, graduate student
Nirana Singh has been named Pacific West Conference Player of the Week as announced by the PacWest on Tuesday.
On
Feb. 20, Singh opened the week by notching a hit in her lone at-bat in game one, offering a single during the Urban Knights' five-hit rally to push its lead to 8-4 in the seventh inning. She then blasted a three-run homer in the second inning of game two and came right back with
another big fly the following day as part of a 1-for-3, two-RBI performance in the third part of the series. After drawing a bases loaded walk in the first inning, Singh launched a solo shot to left field to give her team a cushion in a game ART U would win 5-3. The series finale saw Singh go 3-for-4 with two singles, one run batted in, and one run scored all during a record-tying eight-run second inning.
For the series, she batted .545 (6-11) with two home runs, six RBIs, and three runs scored. She also recorded a 1.091 slugging percentage and had a hit in every contest.
Singh's .448 batting average currently leads ART U and ranks sixth in the PacWest. She has collected 10 hits in her first eight games as an Urban Knight.
