WAIPIO, Hawaii — Not even a passing storm could dampen the No. 12 Academy of Art University women's tennis team's spirit Thursday, as the Urban Knights got back on the winning track with a 9-0 sweep of Chaminade at Central Oahu Regional Park.
Â
ART U (5-2) quickly bounced back from its 8-1 defeat at the hands of No. 4 BYU-Hawaii the day before with a dominating victoryÂ
after a two-hour rain delay pushed back the start of the match. The Knights only lost four games to the Silverswords (0-10) in sweeping the doubles competition and won five singles matches in straight sets with no more than two games lost across 10 sets.
Â
No. 43-ranked singles player senior
Nina Gajdosikova only lost one game in sweeping Melanie Schumilas 6-0, 6-1, at No. 1 singles. Junior
Michelle Dandik Zaale and senior
Jenny Johansson did the same thing at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, respectively, also winning 6-0, 6-1. Freshmen
Dorota Markowska and
Gabriela Rivas took care of business at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, winning with perfection with 6-0, 6-0 sweeps of Jackie McGreal and Ellissa Bio, respectively.
Â
The only singles match that went the distance was at No. 2, where junior
Lucia Zavarcikova won her first set against Kimberly Takara 6-2 but dropped a close 7-6 decision in the second to go to a tiebreaker. There, she would run out to a 10-4 edge for the victory.
Â
Markowska and Rivas' clean sweeps in singles followed their perfect No. 3 doubles victory where they teamed to beat McGreal and Bio 8-0. Gajdosikova and Zavarcikova won 8-1 at No. 1 singles and Dandik paired with Johansson to win 8-3 at No. 2 doubles.

The Urban Knights conclude their Hawaii trip at 10 a.m. HST Saturday with a match at No. 6 Hawaii Pacific.
