SAN FRANCISCO — Plenty of rest propels the No. 12 Academy of Art University women's tennis team Monday into its third match this season against a top-30 ranked team when it hosts No. 22 Point Loma at the San Francisco Tennis Club.

The Urban Knights (3-1) saw their three-match winning streak to open the spring snapped on Feb. 27 when Claremont-Mudd-Scripps – No. 5 nationally in NCAA Division III – defeated them 6-3 in a neutral site match at UC Santa Cruz. Monday's home match against No. 22 Point Loma (4-5) will be ART U's second home match of the season and third against an NCAA Division II ranked opponent, in which they are 2-0.

ABOUT POINT LOMAThe Sea Lions (4-5) have played a variety of NCAA Division II, Division III and NAIA opponents during the first four weeks of the season. Most recently PLNU fell at No. 23 Cal State LA, 6-3. The Sea Lions are 0-3 on the road this season and 1-4 against nationally ranked opponents.

Regina von Kotch has been the Sea Lions' best singles player with a 7-2 record this spring. She has gone 7-1 at the No. 3 spot. Kirsty Mountain has also done well with a 5-1 record, including 2-0 at No. 5 and 3-1 at No. 6. PLNU has struggled at doubles with no teams that have played more than one match holding a winning record. The duo of Nikki Newell and Hillary Ramage has gone 4-5 at the No. 1 spot.

STILL GOING STRONGSenior
Jenny Johansson continued her undefeated spring on Feb. 27 with wins in singles and doubles versus Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Johansson moved to 4-0 in singles play with a 6-4, 6-4 win over CMS' Bria Smith. She also teamed with
Michelle Dandik Zaale to win her fourth match at No. 2 doubles, taking an 8-5 decision there.

STREAK SNAPPED AT SIXAcademy of Art's loss to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Feb. 27 snapped a six-game regular season winning streak dating back to last season. The streak began on April 4, 2014, with a 5-4 edging of Sonoma State. The Urban Knights closed the 2014 regular season with two more wins before heading to the postseason for both the Pacific West Conference tournament and NCAA West Regional tournament. Three wins to begin this spring extended the streak to six. ART U had two separate six-match winning streaks during the 2014 season alone. The school record winning streak is nine, set from Feb. 23-March 23, 2013.

LOOKING AHEADThe Urban Knights travel to Hawaii for three matches against PacWest opponents, including two versus top-10 ranked teams, on March 18-21.
