SURPRISE, Ariz. — Its best-ever finish at the Pacific West Conference Championship Tournament and earning a point against top-seeded and No. 3-ranked BYU Hawaii were just some of the milestones reached Saturday by the No. 11-ranked and third-seeded Academy of Art University women's tennis team in the championship match, though the Urban Knights fell 5-1 to the Seasiders at the City of Surprise Tennis and Racquet Complex.

Reaching the final with a 5-3 upset win Friday over second-seeded Hawaii Pacific ensured the Urban Knights (13-5) of their best PacWest Tournament finish after coming in third a year ago. While BYU-Hawaii (30-1) won its ninth straight title, ART U finished second in a tournament that contained seven top-25 ranked teams.

Lucia Zavarcikova – who was the hero in Friday's upset win over HPU – earned the Knights' lone victory Saturday, teaming up to beat the No. 21-ranked doubles team of Marietta Tuionetoa and Jin Jin Han 9-7.

Entering the singles competition with just a slight 2-1 deficit to overcome, the Urban Knights were faced with BYU-Hawaii's three top-10 nationally ranked singles players at the No. 1 through No. 3 spots. No. 1 ranked Nannan Zhang beat No. 48 senior
Nina Gajdosikova 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1. No. 9 Tuionetoa beat junior
Michelle Dandik Zaale 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3, and No. 4 Min Liu clinched the conference title for the Seasiders by defeating Zavarcikova at No. 2 singles 6-0, 6-2.

The Urban Knights now await to hear if they are selected as one of the three teams to compete in the NCAA Division II West Region Championship.
