AZUSA, Calif. — The ball kept rolling Friday for the No. 11 Academy of Art University women's tennis team with the Urban Knights earning a big regional victory on the road at No. 18 Azusa Pacific, winning 7-2 at the Munson and Bavougian Tennis Complex.

ART U (8-3) swept the doubles competition for the fifth time this spring, taking an early 3-0 lead. It clinched the match with singles victories at No. 6 from junior
Annika Schneider (6-2, 6-1 over Sierra Troxel) and at No. 2 via junior
Lucia Zavarcikova (6-4, 6-1 over Valeriia Kashina) before Azusa Pacific (12-9) earned a point.

The win stretched Academy of Art's win streak to three matches, during which they have not lost more than two points to an opponent. The team is now 5-2 against NCAA Division II nationally ranked teams this season and 8-2 against West Region competition.

Senior
Nina Gajdosikova and Schneider teamed up to win again at No. 1 singles, beating Danae Ingwaldson and Natalie Johnson 8-5. The duo is now 7-0 this season at the top doubles spot. Junior
Michelle Dandik Zaale and freshman
Dorota Markowska also stayed undefeated this spring with an 8-6 win over Lindsey Yeom and Bethany Duval at No. 3 to improve to 4-0. Senior
Jenny Johansson and Zavarcikova won at No. 2, defeating Kashina and Jackie Resler 8-5 to move to 5-1 this spring.

Dandik won her No. 3 singles match in three sets, coming back from being down one set to none by winning the final sets 6-3 and 6-4. Markowska won her No. 5 singles matchup 6-3, 6-2 over Yeom. Gajdosikova fell to No. 17-ranked Natalie Johnson 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1. Johansson barely fell at No. 4, splitting the first two sets and going the distance in the tiebreaker before falling 10-8.

Academy of Art next travels to No. 22 Cal State LA Saturday for another important regional matchup against a nationally ranked opponent. Action begins at 11 a.m. at the CSULA Tennis Complex.
