Pacific West Conference Tennis Players of the Week -- March 30-April 5
IRVINE, Calif. — Academy of Art University women's tennis junior
Lucia Zavarcikova was named Pacific West Conference Player of the Week for the week of March 30-April 5 after going undefeated in singles and doubles, helping lead the Urban Knights to two road wins over nationally ranked opponents.
Zavarcikova went a combined 4-0 in singles and doubles during the week. Friday at No. 18 Azusa Pacific, Zavarcikova defeated Valeriia Kashina 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2 singles after teaming with senior
Jenny Johansson to win 8-5 at No. 2 doubles.Â
The Urban Knights would go on to win the match 7-2.
Saturday the teamÂ
took down No. 22 Cal State LA 6-3Â thanks in part to another win by Zavarcikova at No. 2 singles (6-3, 7-5 over Sonia Landeros). The momentum really swung in the Urban Knights' favor when Zavarcikova and Johansson emerged victorious in a close, 9-8 (7-5) win at No. 2 doubles, giving ART U the 2-1 advantage heading to singles.
The PacWest weekly award is the second this season for the Urban Knights after senior
Jenny Johansson won it for the week of Feb. 16-22. ART U closes out its regular season this week with three matches.
