NCAA Division II West Regional Final Round Results
ROHNERT PARK, Calif. — The wait off to the side of the 18th green Wednesday for sophomore Crystal Wang seemed to take forever, but after the final group walked off, the final score was sealed.
Â
Wang was crowned co-champion of the 2015 NCAA Division II West Regional Tournament, shooting a three-round total of 220 (+4) to tie Midwestern State's Brenna Moore for the individual title and earn a berth to the NCAA Division II National Championship.
Â
Wang is the first Academy of Art University golfer in the history of the program to qualify for the national championship. She joins Moore and Colorado State-Pueblo's Hee-Leina Kim as individual qualifiers for the championship.
Â
Wang was tied for the lead through the tournament's first two rounds and was alone in the lead by three strokes through 14 holes, sinking a birdie on the par-four 14th to get back to even on the day. But the final four holes proved problematic for Wang and a number of the competitors still out on the course.
Â
Wang shot two bogeys and a double bogey on the final four holes to finish at plus-four for the day and the tournament. Sonoma State's Sarah Rotter was in contention but bogeyed all four final holes to finish at seven-over in a tie for 10th. Tarleton State's Beatriz Prados was also in contention for the individual title but bogeyed the final three holes to finish tied for sixth at six-over.

Tarleton State won the tournament with an 893 (+29) team score. St. Edwards (Texas) University was second (898, +34) and host Sonoma State was third (902, +38). All three teams qualified to move on to the national championship. Academy of Art finished tied for seventh (917, +53) with Midwestern State.
Â
Freshman Shu-lin Lin was only one stroke away from getting into a playoff that determined the third and final individual national championship qualifying spot, which Kim won over Dallas Baptist's Sydney Williams on the first playoff hole. She was tied with Williams and Kim through 13 holes, but a bogey on 14 pushed her one stroke back and a final bogey on 17 sealed her fate. She would birdie 18, missing an eagle by about four feet, to finish tied for sixth (222, +6).
Â
Freshman Sterling Hawkins shot a seven-over 79 in the final round to finish tied for 35th. Sophomore Roxanne Matta shot a 10-over 82 to finish tied for 40th. Freshman Maria Fernanda-Traboulsi improved her score for the second straight day, this time cutting it by five strokes to shoot a 10-over 82 and finish 49th.
Â
Wang will compete at the NCAA Division II Women's Golf National Championship on May 13-16, hosted by Grand Valley State in Allendale, Mich., at The Meadows Golf Course.
