Mobolade Ajomale found himself among the world's top sprinters this past week, representing his country at the World University Games. Progressing through multiple rounds in both the 100m and 200m dashes, the Canadian redshirt freshman reached the semifinals of each event.
"I'm just happy I was able to experience all this!" said Ajomale. "This is one on the largest multi-ethnic games second to the Olympics so I can say I'm top 20 in both events."
In the opening round of the 100m dash, Ajomale delivered a 10.41 to lead his heat and finish eighth overall out of 58 competitors. He would move on to round two where he secured another qualifying mark with a time of 10.55 (third of seven in his heat and 12 of 30 overall). Despite a strong 10.43 in the semifinals, Ajomale missed reaching the finals after finishing 11th of 16 in a combined pair of heats.
Ajomale's run in the 200m dash also culminated in the semis after he posted a 21.13 in the first round to once again win his heat and take sixth place out of 61 overall. With the 100m semis scheduled for just an hour after the 200m second round, Ajomale went 21.13 (12 of 31) once more in the 200m to advance once again. The semis saw the Team Canada representative put up a 21.27, good for 11th of 16 overall and three spots from making the finals.
A redshirt freshman for Academy of Art this past year, Ajomale makes his collegiate debut this upcoming season.
