SAN FRANCISCO — Offense was the story Thursday in the second game of the 2015 Kezar Classic between the Academy of Art University men's soccer team and Chico State, though the teams ended the match in a scoreless, 0-0 draw after two overtimes.

The teams took a total of 38 shots between them and put 12 of them on goal, but both goalkeepers stood strong and fought off numerous chances from both teams to earn shutouts. ART U freshman goalkeeper
Kevin Mendez earned his first career shutout with five saves in 110 minutes. Chico State's Andrew Matthews posted his first clean sheet of the season with seven stops.

The 0-0 tie was the first time Academy of Art did not get beaten by Chico State. The Wildcats had won the programs' previous two meetings. It also made ART U unbeaten in its last two games after winning in overtime Saturday at Cal State East Bay.

A total of 17 players took shots Thursday with eight of them taking at least two. The Wildcats' Matt Hurlow led the game with eight shots, including three on goal. Hurlow had two chances in the first overtime to win it for Chico State (0-2-1). His first chance came in the 95th minute when he dribbled the ball inside the box and fired a shot that Mendez made a charging, point-blank save on. His second opportunity came with less than 30 seconds left in the period when he shot the ball from the top of the goalkeeper box but missed high.

Kristof Urbanyi also had his chances to win it for the Urban Knights (1-1-1) as he led ART U with four shots (three on goal). Urbanyi nearly helped the Knights take a late lead in regulation when he fired a shot from 35 yards away on a free kick in the 83rd minute. His ball went past the defense's wall and right at Matthews, who couldn't corral it. Senior defender
Lennart Fleschhut put the loose ball rebound in the back of the net, but the Urban Knights were called offsides and the goal was nullified.

The 2015 Kezar Classic concludes Saturday with two matches. Chico State will face Dominican University of California at 2 p.m. before the Urban Knights face crosstown rival San Francisco State at 4 p.m. in the tournament finale.

SAN FRANCISCO STATE 3, DOMINICAN (CALIF.) 0In the first game of the 2015 Kezar Classic Thursday, San Francisco State improved to 3-0 for the first time since 1946 with its third consecutive shutout of the season, defeating Dominican 3-0.

SF State's defense held the Penguins (0-2) without a shot on goal while recording three of its own shot on goal attempts. The Gators also had an 8-0 advantage in corner kicks while recording 14 shots to Dominican's eight.
