HAYWARD, Calif. — Chances were plentiful Tuesday for both the Academy of Art University women's soccer team and Cal State East Bay, but it was the Pioneers who capitalized the most, scoring three goals to win 3-0 under the lights at Pioneer Stadium.
Â
It was déjà vu all over again for the Urban Knights (1-4) in the first half, as Cal State East Bay's (2-4) Megan Ravenscroft scored the Pioneers' first goal in the fourth minute with a header off a cross from the right side, making it 1-0. A year ago in San Francisco, Ravenscroft scored against the Urban Knights in the sixth minute to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead then as well.
Â
ART U applied most of the pressure from there on in the first half. The Urban Knights put two shots on goal and held the Pioneers to none up until halftime, where CSUEB carried its 1-0 lead into the break. ART U had a final shot at scoring in the last seconds of the first half, lobbing the ball all the way into the box, but the Pioneers' defense cleared the threat away.
Â
Cal State East Bay's Rachel Robbert struck twice in the second half to seal the game for the Pioneers, both within four minutes of each other. Robbert's first goal came in the 64th minute when she grabbed a turnover just outside the left side of the goalkeeper box. ART U freshman goalkeeper
Morgan Wirz saved Robbert's first shot, but Robbert got a hold of the rebound and put it in the back of the net.
Â
Less than four minutes later, Robberts popped a bouncing ball over Wirz's reach from eight yards away for another goal. The Pioneers had crossed the ball into the box seconds earlier but the Urban Knights were able to clear it out. However, the clear landed right at the feet of a CSUEB player, who sent the ball back in the box where it found Robberts.

Senior forward
Réa Laudat led the Urban Knights with three shots, including two that were on target but high over the crossbar. Wirz made three saves.

The Urban Knights are off for the next 11 days before opening Pacific West Conference play in Hawaii on Sept. 26.a
