GolfScrimmages.com D2 National Championship Preview Results (Final)AURORA, Colo. – Following up a career round by sophomore
Sterling Hawkins, fellow sophomore
Shu-lin Lin tied her career-best on Tuesday and finished second to help ART U women's golf take fourth overall at the GolfScrimmages.com D2 National Championship Preview.

Lin was sharp all day long at the CommonGround Golf Course, delivering four birdies including two back-to-back like she did Monday. Coming into Tuesday tied for 12th, the sophomore rose to tie for second place with a 71 (-1) and a combined score of 144 (73-71). It was her highest finish as a collegiate golfer, besting the third-place result she earned in last season's
PacWest Conference Championship.
"I am really excited to see Shu-Lin finish so well today," said head coach
Elaine Harris. "She has been solid on her shot-making and ended with a birdie. She also chipped better today after getting used to the big greens at CommonGround."
Behind Lin, Hawkins ended up finishing tied for 22nd with a two-day score of 151 (70-81). She was followed closely by junior
Crystal Wang who matched her opening round score to produce a 152 (76-76) and end tied for 24th overall. Freshman
Sabrina Virtusio rounded out the Knights qualifiers with a 153 (78-75) and tied for 28th.
As a team, Academy of Art finished fourth out of 20 teams and 11 strokes off the leader. ART U topped No. 9 West Florida, No. 3 Nova Southeastern, as well as West Region opponents Montana State-Billings and No. 27 Sonoma State. The Knights were three strokes from third-place No. 28 Augustana (S.D.).
"I was pleased to see the team in contention to win our first tournament of the season," said Harris. "We were facing some of the best programs in the region and I look forward to our next tournament at Dallas Baptist University."
Continuing from its leading position on Monday, No. 16 Tarleton State collectively shot the second-best round of day two and claimed first overall by seven strokes. The individual champion, however, did not come from the Texans. It was Sierra Langlie from Augustana (S.D.) whose 69 (-2) helped contribute to a 142 two-day score.
The Urban Knights' second fall tournament takes them to Dallas, Texas on Oct. 12-13 for the Dallas Baptist University Golf Classic.
"Each player worked hard this summer and the month of September to prepare for this tournament so their work really showed over the past two days," said Harris. "Now we have two weeks to prepare for the next event!"
