SAN FRANCISCO – Alongside its many friends from Redding Elementary School, Academy of Art University women's basketball honored its four 1,000 point club members prior to Saturday's game and there would be more to celebrate two hours later when ART U topped Chaminade 78-69. Senior guards
Jasmin Guinn,
Zoie Sheng,
Regina Camera, and
Sha'Nice Storey and the rest of the Urban Knights put on a show for their admirers, separating from the Silverswords with an 9-0 run to end the first half then sealing the win with 17 points off turnovers in the final two quarters.
Tied 6-6 four and half minutes in, this Pacific West Conference matchup took a while to heat up as Chaminade used transition baskets to establish a 20-16 advantage after the first quarter. The Knights fought back early in the second with senior center
Caron Brown converting free throws and soon a 3-pointer by Storey quickly broke another tie during Academy of Art's 7-0 run to take the lead.

Facing a 35-33 deficit after a stretch of numerous Silverswords foul shots, ART U rallied back with the aforementioned 9-0 surge in which Camera scored six straight points. When all was said and done, the Knights headed into the halftime locker room up 42-35 and proceeded to expand that margin to double-digits early in the third quarter on five consecutive points by Brown. Sheng then nailed a triple and Academy of Art would keep a comfortable advantage until Chaminade's 6-0 response late in the quarter.
Camera continued to come up big for her squad as they held off the Swords' comeback attempt. She finished off two fastbreak layups minutes into the fourth and soon the Knights were back in the driver's seat. More of ART U's 27 points off turnovers came down the stretch in what became a nine-point victory.
Academy of Art improves to 17-6 overall and 12-1 atop the PacWest Conference standings with the win. Camera ended with a team-high 18 points to go with seven rebounds, six assists, and three steals. Both Sheng and Brown had 16 points apiece while Sheng added six rebounds and five assists. Guinn posted 12 points and nine rebounds as well as three steals.
Chaminade drops to 4-12 overall and 4-8 in conference play despite a double-double from Lilia Maio who played all but one minute and delivered 18 points with 12 rebounds.
ART U closes its four-game homestand on Wednesday, Feb. 3 when the Urban Knights host Holy Names at 5:30 p.m. inside Kezar Pavilion.
