SAN FRANCISCO- It was an uphill battle from the beginning for the Urban Knights (4-9, 2-5 PacWest) who suffered a 73-49 loss at the hands of the Hawaii Pacific Sharks (9-4, 4-2 PacWest) Saturday evening.
Â
For the first 15 and a half minutes, ART U kept HPU within striking distance, never trailing by more than eight points. Senior guard
Nick Cary kept the game close in the opening ten minutes, scoring nine points while shooting 3-for-3 from beyond the three-point arc. However, in the final minutes of the opening period, the Sharks went on a 15-0 run to give themselves a 37-19 advantage.
Â
The Urban Knights entered the second half trailing by a score of 40-21, but HPU continued to widen heir lead. Academy of Art proved their resiliency however, posting a 12-0 run, reducing the deficit to only 15 points with 8:39 remaining. The Knights scored four more times in the contest, but it was not enough to dislodge the third-place Sharks.
Â
Overall, there were several ART U players that stood out amongst the others in the stat sheets. Both Cary and sophomore guard
Jase Harrison posted 11 points, while rebounding four and three shots respectively. Harrison also led the team with three steals. Redshirt junior guard
Marshawn McMahan had a solid game coming off of the bench, scoring seven points with five rebounds and two steals.
Â
Next week, the Urban Knights will fly to Hawaii for three contests including University of Hawaii at Hilo on Thursday, a rematch against Hawaii Pacific on Saturday, and BYU-Hawaii the following Tuesday.
