Sonoma State Invitational Final Results
ROHNERT PARK, CALIF. – No. 10 Academy of Art women's golf headed into the final round of the Sonoma State Invitational in third-place after one round was in the books. With another strong showing, the Urban Knights totaled 306 strokes on Tuesday to claim second in the tournament.
On the individual side, freshman
Han-Chuan "Vicky" Kuo continued her hot streak from Monday's first round. The Motion Pictures and Television major followed up her career-low, 73 strokes in the first round with a 74 in the second to place second overall. The placement is the highest of her career and led ART U, whose four scoring players each finished within the top 25.
"Vicky was focused today," said head coach
Elaine Harris. "I am impressed with her mental game which I think will continue to improve. Today she felt the pressure from her competitors, but she is learning to perform under that pressure."
Junior
Shu-lin Lin placed second for the Urban Knights, following a three-stroke improvement over her first-round total. With 74 strokes on the final day and 151 overall, Lin placed fifth in a field of 53 golfers.
"Shu-Lin is hitting the ball well," said Harris. "I saw great putts from her and she continued to put herself in position to score."
One stroke behind was junior
Sterling Hawkins who came in sixth-place after shooting a 78 in the second round. The fourth ART U golfer to finish was senior
Roxanne Matta who tied for 14
th with a 156-stroke effort. However, since Matta competed as an individual, her score did not count towards Academy of Art's final total.
"Roxanne went into this tournament ready to compete," said Harris. "I knew she was playing well when she had four birdies on Monday, so I was happy that she was able to capitalize today and make good shots to make her score go down."
Senior
Crystal Wang was the Urban Knights' final scorer, tying for 24th after posting a 77 and 82 in the first and second rounds respectively.
With three tournaments under their belts, the Urban Knights will finish out their fall season at the Dennis Rose Intercollegiate Invitational when they head to Hawaii October 24-25.
