SAN FRANCISCO – Academy of Art women's soccer (1-13-1, 1-8-1 PacWest) faced off with Notre Dame de Namur (5-8-2, 3-6-1PacWest) on Thursday, looking to start off their final homestand with a victory. However, the Argonauts' relentless attack resulted in five goals as they defeated the Urban Knights 5-1.
NDNU quickly recorded their first goal in the opening period as Susan Whitney was served the ball off of a corner kick and tapped it straight on past ART U's diving junior goalkeeper
Maggie Alikpala-Wilson. Just under 10 minutes later, the Argos extended their lead to two goals with a long score from 40 yards out and ricocheted off of the crossbar. Looking for a quick response, Academy of Art drove down the field for an attack of their own. Redshirt junior midfielder
Kendall Bozart crossed from the right corner to senior defender
Laura Mick. The Jewelry and Metal Arts major leaped and extended her right leg to change the ball's direction and send it past the keeper. Mick's second goal of the season cut ART U's deficit to one which was the final score of the half.
In the second period, NDNU continued to apply the pressure which the Urban Knights struggled to contain. In the half, the Argonauts collected three more goals, giving them a 5-1 victory over ART U.
Overall, senior midfielder
Natalie Gabriel led the Knights' offense with two shots in the contest. Four other players contributed attempts for Academy of Art including Mick, junior midfielder
Abi Chavez, and redshirt junior
Mariandrea Otero-Molano who each had one shot on goal.
The Urban Knights will now prepare to welcome in the Sharks of Hawaii Pacific on Tuesday in their final home match of the 2016 season.
