ST. GEORGE, Utah – Academy of Art University women's basketball took control from the very outset on Thursday, tying season-highs in both points and assists en route to a 95-73 victory over Dixie State. The Urban Knights jumped out to an 8-0 lead right away and never let go as senior guards
Jasmin Guinn and
Regina Camera led the charge with all-around performances.
"I was proud of the team because I thought some of our bench players really stepped up and supported our starting cast," said head coach
LaNay Larson. "It was a total team effort. Assist-to-turnover ratio is always huge to me and I thought that played a big part in the win."
Settling into its defensive press early, Academy of Art scored the first eight points of the game with half of those points off turnovers. The Knights continued to roll and were soon up 20-10, but DSU's Chermayne Moore led an 8-0 rebuttal to keep it close. In the final seconds of the first quarter and after two offensive rebounds on the same possession, senior guard
Zoie Sheng knocked down a turnaround jumper to beat the buzzer and gave her team a 23-20 advantage.
The Red Storm once again came within a basket of ART U on multiple occasions early in the second quarter, but refused to relinquish the lead. A quick 6-0 burst ignited and furthered by buckets from junior guard
Jasmine Rubin once again created separation. Then Camera was extremely active in the final one minute and 30 seconds, recording two steals and two assists including one to senior guard
Sha'Nice Storey with 40 seconds left. A three-point play by DSU's Taylor Mann cut the margin to single digits, 48-39, by halftime.

Layups by Guinn and Storey as well as a 3-pointer by Camera helped keep Academy of Art in the driver's seat as Dixie State never came closer than six points midway through the third quarter. Another 8-0 run opened the fourth quarter as Sheng, junior forward
Pre'Franz Dominick, and sophomore guard
Desiree Harris all converted layups to eventually push a 20-point advantage and seal the victory.
The win upped ART U's overall record to 19-6 and made the team now 14-1 in PacWest Conference play. Guinn had a productive 28 minutes, scoring 23 points with nine rebounds (surpassing 800 for her career), six assists, and three steals to set a new program single-season record for thefts. Camera added 22 points, six rebounds, four assists, and three steals while the tandem of Storey and Sheng combined for 23 points and six assists. Harris scored eight points off the bench.
Dixie State falls to 4-16 overall and 4-10 in conference play. Taylor Mann finished with a game-high 26 points and 11 rebounds to lead the way, but 23 turnovers yielding 32 ART U points were the difference.
