2016 Boston University Last Chance Meet ResultsBOSTON – Sunday's Boston University Last Chance Meet, Academy of Art University track & field's final competition before the postseason, was the stage not only for school records, but breakout national performances as well. A day packed with highlights saw
Mobolade Ajomale,
Keanna Moody,
Amanda Odesjo,
Rian Young-Werner, and
Schae Graham all walk away with lifetime best marks. Most notably, Ajomale delivered the eighth best 200m time in NCAA Division II history.
"It was a great final test," said head coach
Kevin LaSure. "We had some great performances and also saw some things we need to work on before NCAAs. Rian was able to improve her NCAA provisional mark in the triple jump and Schae ran a new lifetime personal best in the 400m, improving her provisional time as well. Keanna ran a lifetime personal best in the 200m and Bolade broke the 200m indoor school record. Both 4x400 relays improved standings for Nationals with season bests and the men also broke the school record. So overall it was a good showing and puts us where we would like to be heading into the postseason."
In just his third 200m race as a collegiate, Ajomale once again found himself in the record books with a
21.04 on Sunday. The time was a new school record by 0.14 seconds and the eighth fastest ever at the DII level. He earned a Nationals automatic qualifier and rose to second in the country behind only Tiffin's Lamar Hargrove who posted the second-best time in DII history last year.
The women's 200m was also a memorable event as Moody showed her speed with a 24.56 mark. The personal record raised her to 18th in NCAA DII.
Though they attained individual successes, both Ajomale and Moody weren't finished after their first sprints. Ajomale joined
Roman Skovronski,
Jordan Edwards, and
Alexander McNally in a men's 4x400m relay that ended up setting a new program record with a time of 3:12.16. That performance would move ART U up to fourth in the country. Moody combined with
Mistic Scott, Graham, and
Jasmine Grace for a season-best 3:45.18, third in program history, and seventh in the country thus far.
Graham ran her own lifetime best of 55.63 in the 400m bringing her up to third in ART U history and 22nd in Division II. Scott ran her best 400m of the year, finishing 56.19 to claim third among collegiate runners in the event.
The Knights' personal records were not only reserved for the sprint events on Sunday. In an Academy of Art dominated women's long jump, Odesjo soared to a new best 18-5.75 (5.63m) in her final attempt of the regular season, earning her a NCAA provisional mark in the process. Young-Werner matched her season best with a 17-7.5 (5.37m) and offered her best triple jump of the year at 39-4.5 (12.00m), making the freshman 16th in the country.
ART U now looks ahead to one final event to close out its 2016 indoor season – NCAA Division II Nationals. This year, the culmination of the Knights' indoor campaign will take place in Pittsburg, Kansas at Pitt State's Robert W. Plaster Center on Mar. 11-12. Additionally, Academy of Art will compete in Stanislaus State's Kim Duyst Invitational on Mar. 5 in Turlock.
