Youngquist Earns PacWest Newcomer of Week

PacWest Conference Players of the Week (Mar. 14)

IRVINE, Calif. -- Freshman infielder Brenna Youngquist highlighted the first leg of Academy of Art University softball's Hawaii roadtrip with a record-breaking performance and was awarded Pacific West Conference Newcomer of the Week as announced by the conference on Monday. Responsible for a new ART U single-game high of six runs batted in, Youngquist helped the Urban Knights earn three wins in its four-game series at Chaminade. The honor is based on games played Mar. 7-13.

Youngquist had two hits in ART U's first day in Hawaii on Mar. 12 then followed that up by going 1-for-2 in game three and scoring one of her team's seven runs. The Buena Park native saved her best for last, however, finishing 4-for-4 with a home run, a double, and six RBIs in the series finale on Mar. 13. She hit .538 (7-for-13) for the week.

After raising her batting average to .385 (25-for-65) on the season, Youngquist now ranks 16th in the PacWest. She has also risen to a four-way tie for the seventh-most RBIs (19) as well.

This is Youngquist's first career PacWest weekly honor and the second by an Urban Knight in 2016.
