PORTLAND, Ore. --
Less than a week after being crowned NCAA Division II National Champion in the 60m dash, redshirt freshman and Canadian National Team member Mobolade Ajomale had a unique opportunity to compete with the world's best sprinters on Friday. Contesting the 60m at the IAAF World Indoor Championships inside the Oregon Convention Center, Ajomale reached the semifinals where he challenged greats such as Jamaica's Asafa Powell and finished 10th overall with a time of 6.60.

13266"It was great experience for Bolade to see where he stacked up against some of the best competition in the world," said head coach Kevin LaSure. "He did a great job representing our program and his country. We are so proud of the way he has performed all year and to cap it off with a 10th place finish at the World Championships is an amazing accomplishment."

In the sixth of seven preliminary heats, Ajomale found himself opening against Team USA's Mike Rodgers, a silver medalist in the 2010 IAAF World Indoor Championships 60m, as well as Hua Wilfried Koffi, a gold medalist for Ivory Coast in the World University Games 200m. Ajomale would go 6.67 which had him fourth in the heat and thus outside the top three auto-qualifiers. However, his mark was 0.001 better than 22nd place Churandy Martina (Netherlands), earning him the final spot in the semi-finals.

Out of three heats in the in the semis, Ajomale would draw Asafa Powell, the world's most prolific sub-10 second 100m runner, just two lanes over as well as Marvin Bracy of Team USA. The Richmond Hill, Canada native would cut down his time to 6.60 and once again took fourth in his heat behind a remarkable 6.44 from Powell. Overall, Ajomale would finish 10th, just 0.05 out of being among the eight finalists.
