KNIGHT WATCH
Junior outfielder
Jessica West remains the Urban Knights' leader in batting average (.336), stolen bases (6), and runs scored (32) while, in conference play alone, sophomore
Brenna Mitchell has hit .411 with a .625 slugging percentage. Hitting .328 on the year, freshman infielder
Brenna Youngquist paces the squad in doubles (11) and runs batted in (35).
The highest on-base percentage (.421) for Academy of Art belongs to freshman infielder
Juliana Lopez who is hitting .311 with 18 runs scored. Although sophomore infielder
Samantha Klune has cooled off slightly to a .294 batting average, she still had one hit in each of the team's recent doubleheaders facing the top pitchers in the PacWest.
Senior catcher
Elise Oldham tied the program's career record for caught stealing after nabbing her 27th runner in the Dixie State doubleheader and finds herself now third in ART U history in career home runs (16) just five from tying record holder and current assistant coach Alana Aweau. Senior outfielder
Andrea Gill has had a memorable final season, breaking out for career-highs in virtually every statistical category.
In the circle, Mitchell (10-10) is fourth in the PacWest in innings pitched (123.2) and fifth in strikeouts (75) with a 2.76 ERA that is currently third-lowest in the program's all-time single season record book.
IN ADVANCE OF THE LANCE
Ranked as highly as No. 9 this season, California Baptist dropped to No. 16 recently after taking losses to Dixie State and Azusa Pacific last week. The Lancers had taken two from DSU on Apr. 8, pushing their win streak to 18 games, but the Trailblazers broke that run with a 3-0 win in St. George on Apr. 11. Besides three non-conference losses, CBU also went 1-3 against Concordia at the start of PacWest play. The Lancers lead the conference in runs scored (293), doubles (87), are tied for the lead in batting average (.343), and rank second in ERA (1.80). Jacque Lopez ranks fifth in the PacWest in batting average (.400), Krista Mann is the conference leader in runs scored (47), and pitcher Ashley Coleman (16-3) is tied for second in the PacWest with a 1.14 ERA, nine shutouts, and 98 strikeouts in 122.2 innings pitched. California Baptist holds a 9-1 lead historically in 10 games against ART U.
BIG INNINGS HELP TRAILBLAZERS TOP KNIGHTS On a blazing
Apr. 17 out at Mission Blue Field, Academy of Art University softball could not cool off a hot Dixie State team, falling 9-0 and 7-1 in the Pacific West Conference matchup. The Urban Knights stayed close early in game one, but a six-run fifth inning ended up triggering the run-rule. Then, ART U scored first to open the day's finale, but another high-scoring fifth shifted the momentum to the Trailblazers.
LOOKING AHEADAlthough ART U's Senior Day ceremony will be this weekend, two more gamedays remain for the Knights. First, Academy of Art faces Dominican in San Rafael on Saturday, Apr. 30 then a rain-rescheduled home game against Holy Names comes on Sunday, May 1.
