NCAA Division II Women's Golf National Championship Round One Results
 
AURORA, Colo. – On the biggest stage in NCAA Division II Golf, sophomore Sterling Hawkins rose to the occasion in round one.
 
The San Jose, Calif. native had a slow start by bogeying on the first two holes. However, she posted a birdie in the eighth and 11th holes and shot for par in the subsequent seven. Her first round score of 72 (E) propelled her into a four-way tie for sixth in a field of 72 players and was the leader amongst all individuals.
 
"Sterling had a game plan and stuck to it," said head coach Elaine Harris. "We talked about focusing, taking our time, and regaining focus in between shots. She kept her energy up the whole round."
 
Hawkins will return to Common Grounds Golf Course on Thursday to compete in the second of four rounds.
