KNIGHTS' TALES
This weekend's NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field National Championships dually represent the final chapter in accomplished collegiate careers as well as page one of highly-anticipated debuts for Academy of Art University track & field. The men's team (
ranked #16 in the country) is composed of three seniors, two juniors, and one freshman who are set to compete in six individual events and one relay while the women bring one senior, two juniors, one sophomore, and two freshmen for two individual events and one relay. Should athletes finish the prelims of their events among the Top 8, they will have an opportunity to earn All-American status and potentially an individual championship in Saturday's finals (long and triple jump champions are determined Thursday and Friday, respectively).
"We're excited for the upcoming Outdoor NCAA Championships," said head coach
Kevin LaSure. "All of the athletes that have qualified for these championships have been working extremely hard all season and hopefully they can all put it together this weekend."

BOLADE THE BOLDÂ (100m, 200m, 4x100m)
With a resume that already reads
Indoor NCAA champion at 60m, All-American in three events including the indoor 200m, and
Pacific West Conference Men's Track Athlete of the Meet after earning gold medals in four events at the championship meet, few can believe
Mobolade Ajomale is only a freshman. The
USTFCCCA West Region Indoor Track Athlete of the Year enters the weekend ninth in the 200m after setting the program record with a 20.88 on two occasions (
Florida Relays,
Mt. SAC Relays) and 10th in the 100m following a 10.33 also at Mt. SAC. Ajomale will also join his teammates for the 4x100m relay (more below).
THE FRENCHMAN'S FINALEÂ (1500m, 5000m)
It has been a year of "firsts" for senior
Valentin Pepiot in 2015-16. After making history as the program's first male cross country
All-American, the two-timeÂ
PacWest Cross Country Runner of the Year proceeded to set a new record for the indoor mile then followed that with new program-bests in the outdoor 800m, 1500m, mile, and 5000m. This week, Pepiot challenges the best distance runners in the country as the fourth seed in the 1500m after a 3:43.90 at theÂ
USF West Coast Last Chance Meet and ranked sixth in the 5000m with a 13:57.37 that came at the
Oxy Invitational. He is the only Urban Knight with two Nationals automatic qualifying times this outdoor season.
TURNING THE KEYÂ (400m, 4x400m)
The lone member of Academy of Art University's 2013 two NCAA National Championships (
Indoor,
Outdoor),
Keanna Moody steps onto the track for the final time in her collegiate career this weekend. An eight-time All-American, Moody will go for double figures with solo action in the 400m dash and the 4x400m relay (more below). The senior's 400m season-best of 54.60 came at the
Mt. SAC Relays and has her 14th in the country going in.
RISE OF ROMANÂ (400mH, 4x100m)
Steadily dropping his time in the 400m hurdles all year,
Roman Skovronski has sights set on his first individual All-American honor this week. After being crowned
PacWest Conference Champion in the event, the senior would post his best mark of the year (52.14) at the
Oxy Invitational, furthering the program record in the process. He currently ranks eighth in NCAA Division II in the 400mH. Skovronski may also contribute to the men's 4x100m (more below).
THE QUEEN'S JUMPÂ (TJ)
One of the most decorated jumpers out of high school,
Rian Young-Werner suffered an injury early last season that forced the delay of her freshman year to 2016. Though it has taken time, tremendous dedication, and courage, the Citrus Valley High School product has begun to scratch the surface of her previous ability and comes into Friday's postseason debut as the
PacWest Conference Champion in triple jump. After her 41-0.25 (12.50m) at PacWest, Young-Werner rose to fourth in the country as the only freshman in the top seven.
CRAIG GOES LONGÂ (LJ, 4x100m)
After earning his first All-American trophy with a fourth-place finish in the long jump at Indoor Nationals,
Craig Mattox has remained determined to repeat the honor this outdoor season. He claimed the
PacWest Conference crown in the event then flew to a season-best 24-5.75 (7.46m) at the
USF West Coast Last Chance Meet. Coming into Thursday, Mattox ranks 15th in NCAA Diviison II. The Paradise Valley Community College transfer will also contribute to the men's 4x100m (more below).
FANTASTIC FOURS (Men's 4x100m, Women's 4x400m)
Marlon Britton,
Alexander McNally,
Mobolade Ajomale, and
Craig Mattox (
Roman Skovronski is an alternate) come together this week looking to build on their eighth-place ranking in the men's 4x100m relay. The quartet's peak time of 40.37 at the
Mt. SAC Relays put them number one on the Academy of Art all-time list.

The women combine for a different event as
Keanna Moody,
Mistic Scott,
Dierra Haven, and
Schae Graham (
Jasmine Grace is an alternate) bring numerous years of experience into their 4x400m relay. Their season-best mark (3:44.23) came at Sacramento State's
Hornet Invitational and has them 16th in the country entering the postseason.
"Everyone here in Florida representing ART U is in a position to compete for All-American honors," said director of track & field/cross country
Torrey Olson. "We have a number of NCAA veterans as well as a number of seniors here with us. The women are in a position to rebound from their performance at indoors, having added
Rian Young-Werner, who sits tied for fourth on the NCAA list. The men's team is composed differently than our indoor squad, but this is a potent group. I'm proud to have them represent ART U in Bradenton."
