IRVINE, Calif. – A total of 97 Academy of Art University student-athletes were named 2015-16 Academic All-Pacific West Conference in an announcement by the conference media relations office on June 27. This total is the most ever achieved by the university. Based on performances in the classroom over their cumulative collegiate career,
1,595 athletes from the conference's 14 member institutions earned the distinction.
All student-athletes chosen for the Academic All-PacWest honor met a set of specific criteria including a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and were eligible to practice or compete with their respective teams.
Award winners were represented by each of Academy of Art's 14 sports which are sponsored by the PacWest Conference. For the fourth consecutive year, women's soccer led the way with 14 representatives while women's track and field came in a close second with 12 members of their own. Other notable programs included volleyball (11) and softball (10).
"I'm extremely proud of the hard work and dedication that our coaches and artist-athletes have put forth over the last four terms," said Student-Athlete Admissions and Academic Liaison Cole Wilson. "This is the second semester in a row that we have achieved the 3.0 mark as an athletic department and we will continue to work diligently with all of our current and incoming artist-athletes."

The PacWest is now scheduled to choose a Scholar-Athlete of the Year for each of its 15 sports. Institutions have been presented with an opportunity to nominate one student-athlete from each of its athletic programs. These individual winners will be announced on Tuesday, June 28.
