SAN FRANCISCO – On a day which featured the offense, Academy of Art men's soccer (0-4-1) found themselves on the short end of the stick, falling 6-1 to Concordia (Ore. 3-0-1).
Â
The first half was dominated by the Cavaliers' precision offense, whose first five shots on goal each found the back of the net. The Urban Knights managed two shots on the goal, but CUO's keeper snuffed their chances each time.
Â
The highlight of the second half was in the 79th minute when freshman midfielder
Isiah Quiros received a corner kick at the top of the box from junior midfielder
Matthew "Mateo" Rodriguez. The Novato, Calif. native was able to change directions against the Cavaliers' defenders and shoot straight on above the outstretched arms of the goalie. The goal was not only his first in an Urban Knight uniform, but the first in his collegiate career.
Â
Freshman goalkeeper
Jakob Primbas made his collegiate debut in the second half and had a strong showing in front of the net. The Berlin, Germany native posted four saves, while only allowing one goal to get through.
Â
The Urban Knights' homestand continues on Sunday as they start the season anew, welcoming in BYU-Hawaii as their first PacWest opponent of the season.
