KNIGHTS OF KNOTE
In the season's first two contests, senior guard
Kendall Brown has been ART U's biggest standout. The Corona, Calif. native was named to the PacWest/CCAA All-Tournament Team after compiling 35 points and 13 rebounds while seeing a total of 55 minutes. His best performance
was against SF State when he rattled off a game-high, 20 points (8-for-18) along with eight rebounds and one steal.
NIGHTHAWKS PERFECT TO START THE SEASON
Northwest Nazarene has defeated both of their opponents to open the season, including a near, 20-point victory over Multnomah (93-74). The Nighthawks have four players averaging double-digit point totals including Maurice Jones who has averaged a double-double thus far (22.0 points, 11.5 rebounds). NNU finished in a three-way tie for sixth in the GNAC during the 2016-17 season, just missing out on a playoff-spot.
CAVALIERS SNEAK BY FIRST TWO OPPONENTS
Also with two games under their belts, Concordia (Ore.) has defeated each of their first two opponents this season, but only by a combined total of four points. It took until overtime to decide things against Cal State Monterey Bay, but the Cavaliers prevailed by three points in their season and home-opener, 88-85. The following day, Concordia took on Cal State San Bernardino in yet another nail-biter. This time, things were decided in regulation, but it took a 9-2 run and a final layup with seven seconds to play in order to seal a one-point, 65-64 victory over the Coyotes. The Cavaliers' Christopher Edward recorded a double-double in that game and was named to the All-tournament team. The senior forward leads the team with an average, 11.5 rebounds per game while Jarrett Gray was the tournament MVP with a team-leading 20.5 points per contest.
PREVIOUS GAME: BROWN NAMED ALL-TOURNEY IN LOSS TO STANISLAUS STATE
Nov. 11 - In their second game in as many days, Academy of Art men's basketball continued their first tournament of the season after
facing SF State in their 2017-18 debut. This time, the Urban Knights took on the likes of Stanislaus State, a team which the program had only faced twice before in ART U's 10-year history. After
defeating the Warriors in overtime almost exactly one year ago, Academy of Art looked to repeat the feat on Saturday afternoon, seeing three Knights reach double-digit points. However, after the score remained within one possession until five minutes into the second half, Stanislaus State managed to pull away in the final minutes for a 10-point, 79-69 victory.
