2017 Mines Alumni Classic & Multi Results
GOLDEN, Colo. – Back inside Steinhauer Fieldhouse for the finale of the Colorado School of Mines Alumni Classic & Multi, Academy of Art track & field continued to garner national attention on Friday.
Mobolade Ajomale was at the forefront of the highlights with an automatic qualifier in the 60m in his 2017-18 debut.
A nine-time All-American heading into his junior season, Ajomale wasted no time reassuming his spot atop the NCAA Division II ranks in the 60m event. He hit the auto-qualifying standard with a 6.70 in the prelims then proceeded to drop to a 6.67 in the final. Across all NCAA divisions, only Jaylen Mitchell of DI North Carolina A&T has run faster (6.65) this year.
It was not just Ajomale who impressed in the 60m. Not far behind him,
Mark Doyley debuted his talents with a 6.90 in the prelim followed by a 6.87 in the final. Following up his success in the long jump one day prior,
Michane Ricketts' 7.03 mark helped him complete a trio of Urban Knights who made the final while
Roshard Williams put up a 7.16 to place among the top nine of 21 sprinters.
"It was a great first performance of the season," said head coach
Kevin LaSure. "It was good to be on an indoor track for the first time this season and to finally be competing against someone other than ourselves. Michane and Bolade really set the tone for the rest of the team, opening up with automatic qualifiers for NCAA's in the first meet of the season. With only one-third of the team traveling/competing this weekend, we only got to see a small sample size of what we are capable of accomplishing this season, but the future looks extremely bright."
On the women's side of the 60m,
Jasmine Grace took fourth of 18 in the prelim before running 7.88 in the final. The time was just 0.03 off her personal record and earned her third of seven in the final.
Just one of the 11 women's 400m runners cleared the one-minute mark on Friday and it was none other than
Schae Graham. She started off the season with a time of 58.18.
The women's 60m hurdles saw
Marion Presigny progress into the finals after a 9.13 in the prelims. She concluded with an 8.93 to claim fourth of eight by the event's finish.
Academy of Art had individuals from each gender place in the upper half of their respective triple jumps. For the men,
Arrun Palacio went 46-0.75 (14.04m) for third overall and
Rian Young-Werner took fourth with a 36-6.25 (11.13m) to start.
With this lone December meet now complete, the Urban Knights will resume their indoor season in the 2018 calendar year. ART U returns to New York for the second consecutive year, competing in the St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartan Invitational (Jan. 12) followed by the Towson Tiger Invitational (Jan. 13).
