SAN FRANCISCO – Academy of Art University women's basketball clutched a 37-29 advantage at halftime despite a limited roster, but 22-4 Dixie State run bridging the third and fourth quarters spelled the difference in a 75-65 final inside Kezar Pavilion on Saturday afternoon. The Pacific West Conference rematch saw three Urban Knights score 17+ points, however, a 34-3 advantage in bench points helped the Trailblazers earn the victory.
From a 9-9 tie, ART U rolled on an 11-4 run that began with redshirt senior guard
Jazzlynn Brewster's 3-pointer and ended with back-to-back layups from redshirt senior forward
Pre'Franz Dominick and sophomore forward
Ines Medina. That seven-point margin was cut to two by the end of the first quarter, but it grew to as many as 10 points as the Knights continued to connect from long range.
After a jumper by freshman forward
Megan Jefferson gave Academy of Art a 37-29 lead heading into the halftime break, Medina added her third triple to start the third and the home team gained what would become its largest advantage (11 points) of the day. Medina would go on to score nine points in the quarter, but besides a layup from senior forward
Helena Orts, ART U would get no more offensive conversions in the third.

Meanwhile, DSU did not slow down, getting 10 points from Kristin Baldwin and executing an 11-2 run to take its first lead, 47-46, since the beginning of the game. Dixie State opened the fourth quarter with a 9-2 surge, but a stretch of four scores in five possessions kept Academy of Art within striking distance, trailing just 62-58 with three minutes left. One final 6-0 push forced a double-digit Trailblazers advantage and the margin would remain there (75-65) until the final buzzer sounded.
ART U's three-game win streak comes to an end as they move to 5-15 on the year and 4-8 in the PacWest. Dominick's 11th double-double of the season and her fifth straight took the form of 18 points and 18 rebounds while Brewster added 18 points with four assists and three steals as well. Medina finished with 17 points and Orts grabbed 13 rebounds, giving her four consecutive double-digit efforts, and passed out five assists.
The win improves Dixie State's overall record to 9-10 and the Trailblazers improve to 5-7 in conference play. Kristin Baldwin converted eight of her 11 attempts from the field, posting a game-high 21 points while Tramina Jordan contributed 17 points off the bench.
With its four-game homestand now complete, Academy of Art gets a road rematch with Dominican in San Rafael on Saturday, Jan. 27 before returning to Kezar Pavilion for its first-ever meeting with new PacWest Conference member Biola.
