Dennis Rose Invitational Final Results

WAIKOLOA, Hawaii -- ART U finished their third and final round of the Denis Rose Invitational at the Waikoloa King's Golf Course with a cumulative score of 296, improving on their previous round by seven strokes to keep them in eighth. Academy of Art ended the tournament with an overall score of 887, 18 strokes ahead of Saint Martin's University, the next highest finisher.

"The guys played very consistently the entire event and I am proud of their efforts," said head coach Andy Moren. "They have made tremendous strides and are becoming a much more competitive squad."

Junior Gabriel De Leon Manotoc led the Urban Knights after shooting another round of 74 (+2) to end with a combined 218, tied for 16th. The 16th place finish marks the third time this fall Manotoc has claimed ART U's top spot. Sophomore Matthew Watkins matched Manotoc's 74 and earned his first eagle of 2018 to lift him two spots, tied for 26th with senior Lawrence Liang who shot a 76 (+4) in his final round. Liang collected another 11 pars to end with the third most of any golfer and contribute to ART U's tournament leading 173 pars. 

Capturing the best performance of any Knight in the third round was senior Jose Lopez Butron, who improved an impressive eight strokes by shooting an even 72 including his first eagle of the season. Butron jumped nine spots from the solid performance, tying him for 43rd and rounding out Academy of Art's scorers.

The Denis Rose Invitational concludes the fall season for Academy of Art, who will look ahead to their spring season.

"I am happy to see that we have played solid throughout the fall season," said Moren. "We're looking forward to starting up again this spring."
