SAN FRANCISCO – Coming off their most successful season in program history, the 2018-2019 Academy of Art men's basketball season starts tomorrow.
After finishing the 2017-2018 season in 6th place (12-14 overall, 11-9 PacWest), ART U begins the season on Nov. 9 at the SF State Tip-off Classic against host SF State. The Knight's will take on Sonoma State the following day to close out the tournament before traveling to St. George, Utah for the Dixie State Thanksgiving Classic. Following the pair of tournaments, Academy of Art will embark on their PacWest schedule in hopes of competing at the PacWest Conference Championship Tournament from March 7-9. Returning a sizable 13 players for their 2018-2019 campaign, Academy of Art is lead by their six seniors: Guards:
Zuri Williams,
Cobe Williams,
Kiel Long,
Cole Morgan, forward
Brenden Otero, and center
Cameron Niven. Niven was second in points per game with an average of 9.4, while collecting a team leading 28 blocks. Morgan was fourth in conference with 40 steals and third in scoring for ART U with 8.2 points per game.
The junior class features an exciting group of international talent composed of forward
Andrija "Dre" Blatancic, and guards:
Victor Ruiz de Carranza, and
Nemanja Kovacevic. Guards
Chance Maxwell,
Gary Davis, and
Lake Del Mar make up the other half of the third year class. Kovacevic averaged 8.6 points per game while shooting 42.9 percent from the field to earn all-conference honors and academic all-conference recognition at Butte College.
A strong sophomore class includes guards:
Dante Williams,
Stefan Milivojevic and forwards:
Luka Radovic and
Nick Conway. In his first year as an Urban Knight Milivojevic led ART U in three-point percentage, shooting an exceptional .480 (24-50). Radovic and Williams were out last year with injuries, but are poised to be strong additions to the team.
Academy of Art's 2018-2019 season begins this Friday at 7:30 p.m. versus SF State.
