2018 Hillsdale Wide Track Classic (Day 1 Results)
HILLSDALE, Mich. – National, personal, and program-significant marks were achieved by the Urban Knights on day one of the Hillsdale Wide Track Classic inside the Margot V. Biermann Athletic Center. Friday featured two NCAA provisionals from the Distance Medley Relay crews, individual victories in numerous events, and a program record from
Folke Woch in the shot put.
The women's DMR combined the efforts of
Beatriz Martinez Mercado,
Schae Graham,
Ashley Brown, and
Swann Phelippeau for the fastest time in program history, 12:05.04, (converted to 11:57.36 for track size) and the team's first NCAA provisional mark of the year. The men's team saw
Victor Moreau,
Michael Houston,
Rabah Houali, and
Gatien Airiau go 9:58.76 (converted to 9:50.74 for track size)Â for their own NCAA provisional qualifier as well.
Runner-up in the pentathlon with 3,056 points, Woch highlighted her day with a new Academy of Art record in the shot put. She threw 39-0.25 (11.89m) on her final attempt.
Wins came on both the women's and men's sides of the long jump with
Marion Presigny taking first of 27 with her second-farthest long jump of the year coming in at 18-3.25 (5.57m).
Michane Ricketts turned in a 23-6.25 (7.17m) for first overall out of 20. He remains first in NCAA Division II after his 25-3.25 (7.70m) at the Mines Alumni Classic & Multi while Presigny is 12th in the country via her 18-11.75 (5.78m) that also came at that same meet.
Several Knights qualified through the prelims of the men's and women's 60m dash including
Mobolade Ajomale who flew to a 6.76 for first of 50 total sprinters in the event. He will be joined by Ricketts who delivered his second-fastest 60m time of the season with a 7.09.
On the women's side, three ART U sprinters qualified for the finals led by Graham (7.91). She will also be competing alongside
Jasmine Grace (7.96) and
Rian Young-Werner (7.99) as all three made it into the top 17 out of 46 total competitors.
Presigny, who had a busy day, also qualified through the 60m hurdles prelims with an 8.86 just barely off her season-best 8.85. She would take seventh of 26 hurdlers.
A new personal record came from
Giulia McIsaac in the 5000m as she dropped a 17:56.33, which converts to 17:48.15 for track size and puts her first all-time in the Urban Knights record books.
Two Academy of Art distance specialists,
Freddie Hessian and
Joshua Thorson, ended up in the top four of the 3000m Championship as Hessian took home the title with an 8:45.11 and Thorson debuted at 8:52.56 for fourth of 20 competitors.
ART U Track & Field returns for its second day of action at the Hillsdale Wide Track Classic on Saturday and it begins with the women's high jump at 10 a.m. ET (7 a.m. PT) as well as the men's triple jump at 12:30 p.m. ET (9:30 a.m. PT).
"I thought the team competed hard and, each week, they are all starting to fix their mistakes from the previous week," said head coach
Kevin LaSure. "We're looking forward to a good day two tomorrow."
