No. 9 Academy of Art versus No. 14 Florida Southern

LAKELAND, Fla. – Taking on No. 14-ranked Florida Southern in their second game of the road trip and their second in as many days, the Urban Knights were again victorious, holding on for a 5-4 triumph over the Mocs.

ART U took two of the points in doubles, winning in both the first and third positions. Juniors Monika Stanikova and Paula Alcantara made quick work of the adversaries in third doubles, taking the match by the score of 8-3. The win in the first position did not come as easily for No. 17 juniors Alma Thell-Lenntorp and Klara Thell-Lenntorp however, as they found themselves trailing 7-5 with the match on the line. Then, the duo won five straight games to come from behind to take the contest 9-7.

Entering singles, ART U needed to take three of the six contests to capture their third-consecutive victory. They did just that, winning in the first, third, and fifth positions. No. 14-ranked Stanikova continued to roll, making quick work of her opponent up top with a 6-3, 6-3 win (her sixth win in a row). No. 70 K. Thell-Lenntorp only surrendered one game with a 6-1, 6-0 win in third singles, and A. Thell-Lenntorp only permitted her adversary to win two (6-1, 6-1).

"We faced a tough Florida Southern team today," said head coach Clarisse Baca. "I'm very happy with the results, especially with Monica who played an opponent with a very challenging style of game. In the end, she was able to get out of her comfort zone while staying aggressive in order to get the win."

Academy of Art has two more contests on their trip to Florida with their third in three days coming on Tuesday against No. 10 Saint Leo at 3:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
