Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars Release

NORMAN, Okla. – A pair of awards have been released by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA), both of which have recognized the Academy of Art men's golf team.  For the third-consecutive season, they were named to the 18Birdies GCAA All-Academic Team. Furthermore, for the first time in program history, ART U men's golf received a Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-American as junior Lawrence Liang merited the title.

With a 3.16 cumulative grade point average (GPA), the Urban Knights were one of just two schools in the 17084PacWest to receive the All-Academic Team Award and 40 across Division II. The recognition is given to any men's golf program with a cumulative grade point average over 3.00 for the academic year.

"I am very proud of their hard work in the classroom," said head coach Andy Moren. "This really shows what kind of students and athletes they are to put in a commitment, not just on the course, but in the classroom as well."

To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status, an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50-percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 78.0, and maintain a minimum cumulative career GPA of 3.2. Liang met all of the above criteria, shooting an average of 77.3 strokes per round and posting a cumulative GPA of 3.55. There were just six men's golfers in the PacWest to receive the award this year.

"Lawrence is the hardest worker in the classroom day in and day out," said Moren. "He not only spends time on his work, but he does extra things for both the team and the athletics department. For him to be recognized for that is a great achievement and I am very happy for him."
